Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) launched the Device Identification Registration and Blocking Service (DIRBS) recently, making it mandatory for everyone to have an officially registered phone. For those who don’t know, your phone would be blacklisted and will not work in Pakistan anymore if it is not registered with the PTA. This includes all new devices being brought to the country via online shopping or in flight luggage.

However, PTA has some good news for mobile phone buyers or anyone bringing along phones from abroad.

PTA has made it easier to register imported or unregistered phones. As announced by Minister for Revenue, Hammad Azhar, a few weeks ago, PTA has partnered with Telcos across Pakistan for mobile phone registration with DIRBS. In other words, mobile phone owners can register their phones at any of the hundreds of telco franchises in Pakistan.

You will now be able to get your phone registered at any mobile franchise in the country, making the registration process a lot easier.

According to the official statement released by PTA:

In order to facilitate consumers wanting to register their mobile devices’ IMEI, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) through Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) has made mobile registration service available at CMOs’ franchises nationwide.
